Who We Are
Hearthwise Heating & Supply was founded in 2015 by Mark Johnson, a National Fireplace Institute (NFI) certified specialist with over a decade of hands-on experience installing and servicing wood stoves, pellet stoves, gas stoves, and solid fuel heating systems across Upstate South Carolina.
Mark started Hearthwise after seeing homeowners overpay for inferior stoves from big-box stores — sold by staff with no heating experience, installed incorrectly, and backed by no meaningful warranty. His goal: build a local business where every customer gets the same advice he would give a family member.
Today Hearthwise serves Spartanburg, Cherokee & Greenville Counties SC and western NC — with 100+ installations completed and a reputation built on honest guidance, certified workmanship, and products that last.
Since 2015, Mark and the Hearthwise team have completed 100+ stove installations across Spartanburg, Cherokee, and Greenville Counties — from new construction builds to chimney liner retrofits in 1920s farmhouses. We have worked with restored vintage stoves, modern EPA-certified wood burners, pellet inserts, and gas log sets.
Every job teaches us something. We know which stoves hold up in the damp Upstate SC climate, which pellet brands actually combust cleanly, and which flue configurations cause draft problems in older homes. That field knowledge is what separates a compliant installation from one that fails a home inspection or causes a chimney fire three winters later.
We do not push one-size-fits-all solutions. We look at your space, your heat load, your chimney, and your budget — then tell you what will actually work.
